Vladimir Putin has not abandoned his dreams of rebuilding the Russian Empire. The Russian dictator wants much more than just winning in Ukraine. He aims to destroy Ukraine as a free nation and bring back the old Soviet borders.
Putin changed Russia’s constitution in 2020 to justify his land grabs. The new rules say Russia can defend ethnic Russians anywhere and never give up territory once taken. This gave him the legal excuse he needed to invade Ukraine and steal more land.
The war in Ukraine is not about limited goals or border disputes. Putin sees this as a colonial conquest to wipe Ukraine off the map completely. He has compared himself to Russian Emperor Peter the Great, showing his true imperial ambitions.
For centuries, Russian rulers have tried to crush Ukrainian independence and identity. Stalin starved millions of Ukrainians to death in the 1930s. Putin is continuing this evil tradition of Russian imperialism against the Ukrainian people.
Putin uses imperial propaganda to control his own people at home. Fear of war makes Russians accept less freedom and more government power. The dictator benefits from keeping his citizens scared and dependent on his military strength.
American weakness only encourages Putin to grab more territory. When leaders show fear or offer deals, Putin sees opportunity to expand further. He respects only strength and will push as far as the free world allows him.
Putin believes all of Ukraine belongs to Russia and has no right to exist as an independent nation. This extreme view makes any peace deal impossible while he remains in power. He wants total victory, not compromise.
Only when Russia faces overwhelming force will Putin abandon his imperial dreams. America must lead the free world in showing strength against this dangerous dictator. Anything less than total victory for Ukraine means Putin will keep expanding his empire.
