Parents in Gloucester Township, New Jersey are finally being held accountable for their out of control teenagers. The town passed a tough new law that could send mom and dad to jail for up to 90 days if their kids keep breaking the law. It’s about time someone stood up to the chaos plaguing our communities.
This bold move came after last year’s Gloucester Township Day turned into a complete disaster. Hundreds of rowdy teens started fights and caused mayhem at Veterans Park and nearby shopping areas. The event had to be cancelled this year because parents failed to teach their children basic respect and decency.
The new ordinance covers 28 different crimes from serious felonies to minor rule breaking. If a child gets convicted multiple times in juvenile court, their parents face real consequences. Parents could pay fines up to $2,000 or spend three months behind bars learning what accountability looks like.
Police Chief David Harkins deserves credit for pushing this common sense solution. For too long, parents have dumped their badly behaved kids on society and walked away. Now these adults will think twice before letting their children run wild in the streets.
Some bleeding heart critics claim this law is too harsh on families. They worry about parents losing jobs or facing financial hardship. But what about the hardship these delinquent teens cause for law abiding citizens who just want safe neighborhoods.
The root problem is clear as day. Too many parents have abandoned their duty to raise respectful, responsible children. They’ve bought into the liberal idea that kids should express themselves without boundaries or consequences.
Real Americans understand that strong families build strong communities. When parents fail to discipline their children, society pays the price through crime, chaos, and fear. This New Jersey town is showing the rest of the country how to fight back.
Other cities should follow Gloucester Township’s example and pass similar laws immediately. It’s time to restore order to our streets and remind parents that raising good citizens is their most important job.
