Almost 700 days from the presidential election, a grassroots group has a message for Joe Biden: Don’t Run, Joe.
This week, RootsAction released a new ad on its Twitter page, which claimed to be a "progressive group" that helped defeat Donald Trump in the presidential election. The spot featured real voters talking about why they don't want Biden to run for president once more.
One of the voters featured in the ad said that they don't want Biden to run for president again. He noted that the country can't afford to risk losing to a Republican like Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis.
Another voter stated that Biden's low polling numbers are concerning, while another said that he's too risky for the country. A third said that if he runs, the election will be at risk. Another individual claimed that their ideas are more popular than that of Biden.
The ad is spot on. According to a survey conducted by CNBC last week, only 19% of the respondents want Biden to run for president again. A majority of Democrats (57%) and independents (64%) said they don't want to see him enter the race again.
The survey results showed that almost half of the respondents cited age as the reason why they don't want Biden to run for president once more. The younger set was more negative, with only 43% of the 18-49 age group stating that they don't want Biden to run.
According to a report, Biden has been talking to his allies about the various rumors about his age and the presidential race.
In an interview earlier this year, Biden reportedly said that he doesn't know how old he is. A survey conducted by CNBC also revealed that a majority of Americans don't want Donald Trump to run for president again. Only 37% of Republicans said they don't want to see the former president enter the race again, as well as 88% of Democrats and 51% of independents.
According to Norman Solomon, a co-founder of RootsAction, Biden should instead ask the voters of his party to elect him instead of declaring that he's running for president again.
In a statement, Solomon noted that Biden's public approval ratings have remained negative all year. He also noted that the former president's chances of running for president in 2024 are not good.
Despite his low numbers, Biden is still not faring well with the bookies. Unlike the pollsters, the people who actually put their money on the presidential race, the bookies actually prefer to see someone else.
Joe Short, a spokesperson for Gambling.com, noted that the increasing number of people who don't want Biden to run for president in 2024 has caused Democrats to question if he's the right candidate to take on Trump. The Wall Street Journal also reported that many party officials don't think that the former vice president should be allowed to serve another term at the age of 82.
