Comer Targets Left’s Sanctuary Policies, Threatens Federal Funds Trim

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is taking a hard stand against Democratic governors who defy federal immigration laws. Comer says their sanctuary policies protect criminals over law-abiding citizens. He’s expanding his investigation into states like Illinois, Minnesota, and New York, demanding answers from their leaders.

Governors JB Pritzker, Tim Walz, and Kathy Hochul have been called to testify at a May 15 hearing. Comer accuses them of creating “public safety nightmares” by shielding illegal immigrants. He warns that federal funds could be cut off unless these states start following the law.

President Trump backs Comer’s efforts, vowing to punish sanctuary jurisdictions. He claims these policies mock American values and endanger communities. “No more Sanctuary Cities!” Trump declared. “They protect the Criminals, not the Victims.”

Conservative groups like America First Legal are joining the fight. They’ve warned over 250 officials in sanctuary areas that hiding illegal immigrants is a crime. Penalties include prison time. They argue these policies invite gangs and drug cartels into neighborhoods.

At a recent hearing, mayors from New York, Boston, Chicago, and Denver defended their sanctuary rules. Comer clashed with them, blaming their cities for rising crime. He cited cases where freed illegal immigrants later committed violent acts. Democrats pushed back, saying local police shouldn’t do federal agents’ jobs.

Comer isn’t backing down. He says Congress must act to stop taxpayer money from flowing to lawless cities. “Sanctuary policies violate federal law,” he insists. “We will hold these leaders accountable.”

Governors like Hochul claim they follow the rules but still face heat. Conservatives argue these excuses ring hollow. They say blue states prioritize far-left activism over safety, letting criminals roam free.

The message is clear: Republicans won’t tolerate open borders or sanctuary strongholds. Comer’s hearing aims to expose what he calls Democratic arrogance. The battle over immigration enforcement is heating up, with Trump and Congress ready to crack down.
