Newsom Tries to Ditch Radical Past But Critics Aren’t Buying It

California Governor Gavin Newsom is under fire for shifting his political image as critics accuse him of downplaying his radical record. Recent interviews and policy debates highlight growing concerns over his leadership and priorities.

Newsom faced tough questions in a recent interview with conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Critics called out his handling of issues like transgender athletes in girls’ sports. Newsom called it “an issue of fairness” but avoided clear opposition to males competing in female categories. This vague stance clashes with California’s push for gender policies that many conservatives see as extreme.

Homelessness remains a major crisis under Newsom’s watch. Despite spending over $20 billion, California has the highest homeless population in the nation. His “Housing First” approach ignores drug addiction and mental health issues, with state rules blocking funding for programs that require sobriety or treatment. Over 75% of homeless individuals struggle with these root problems, yet policies fail to address them.

Schools are failing while pushing divisive agendas. Test scores show steep declines in math and reading, with some districts seeing only 13% proficiency in math. Enrollment in public schools has dropped sharply as parents flee to private options. Newsom has focused on hiding curriculum details from parents rather than fixing education.

Election integrity is another weak spot. California’s lax rules led to duplicate ballots and bloated voter rolls. Audits found evidence of fraud, with the state failing 9 out of 10 election security metrics. Newsom’s policies have eroded trust in the voting process.

Border security failures are glaring. Newsom supports open borders, opposing cooperation between law enforcement and ICE. This has drawn illegal immigrants, including potential security threats, while straining state resources. His attacks on border patrol agents contrast with incentives like welfare for those entering illegally.

Newsom’s recent attempts to pose as a moderate clash with his far-left record. He blocked parents from overseeing their kids’ education, kept schools closed longer than most states during COVID, and mismanaged taxpayer funds. Scandals like the French Laundry dinner and NFL luxury suite parties revealed hypocrisy in his pandemic rules.

Critics warn against buying his new “moderate” image. Alex Marlow of Breitbart notes Newsom is “inoculating himself” from past radical actions. With California’s economy lagging and families struggling, many see his political pivot as a calculated move for higher office, not genuine change.
