Republicans in Congress launched a fiery attack on big-city mayors who protect illegal immigrants over American citizens. A hearing turned explosive as South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace ripped into four Democratic mayors for putting politics ahead of public safety. The mayors of New York, Chicago, Boston, and Denver squirmed under tough questions about why they let criminal aliens roam free instead of handing them to federal agents.
Mace blasted the mayors for refusing to honor ICE detainers—requests to hold illegal immigrants accused of crimes. She demanded yes-or-no answers but got waffling excuses instead. When pressed, Boston’s mayor dodged questions about whether entering America illegally is a crime. Chicago’s mayor claimed his city follows the law but couldn’t explain why violent offenders get released back onto streets.
The hearing exposed shocking examples of sanctuary policies failing. In Chicago, an illegal immigrant arrested for trying to kidnap a child was let go—only to later murder a man. Republicans argued these tragedies happen because cities hide criminals from ICE. Mace held up a quote where Boston’s mayor claimed ICE raids “threaten everyone’s safety,” calling her a hypocrite for ignoring victims of immigrant crime.
Democrats claimed their cities are safer thanks to trust between police and immigrants. But GOP lawmakers slammed this as nonsense. They warned that shielding lawbreakers makes communities more dangerous. “You have blood on your hands,” Mace told the mayors, citing Americans hurt or killed by criminals who should’ve been deported.
The mayors repeatedly praised “compassion” while downplaying risks. New York’s Eric Adams admitted he can’t stop illegals from coming but insisted on coddling them anyway. Denver’s mayor bragged about falling crime rates but got schooled when Republicans cited ICE agents injured arresting fugitives his city released.
Trump officials vowed to crack down harder on sanctuary cities. They plan to slash federal funds for roads, schools, and police in places that defy immigration laws. Attorney General Pam Bondi warned Boston: “Criminals will be prosecuted… justice will be served.” GOP reps threatened to send the mayors to jail for violating federal statutes.
Conservatives see these policies as pure partisan hatred. Mace asked if the mayors “hate Donald Trump more than you love your country.” Their mealy-mouthed replies said it all. They care more about virtue-signaling to far-left activists than protecting U.S. citizens.
The hearing proved sanctuary cities put illegal immigrants above public safety. While mayors preach tolerance, Americans pay the price. Until leaders prioritize law and order, innocent lives will remain at risk—and the blood will stay on Democrats’ hands.
